General
FROM CHINA TO GERMANY
In 2002 she moved from the People's Republic of China to Germany to play for the TV Busenbach club. She was granted German citizenship in 2010. She took a year out from the sport to give birth to her daughter Leonie in 2012, making her comeback at the Qatar Open in February 2013. "In the beginning it was very difficult in Germany. I could hardly speak English and no German. Fortunately, other Chinese were there. There are people who want to see me and people who don't. I can't change that. The German national team gave me the chance to succeed and to take part in competitions as big as the Olympic Games, which is almost impossible in China. My daughter, my husband, my whole family lives here. I have no plans to go anywhere else." (sport1.de, 23 Jul 2014; mytischtennis.de, 05 Nov 2013; faz.net, 16 Sep 2017; tischtennis.de, 20 Mar 2014; mytischtennis.de 05 Nov 2013, 14 Oct 2013, 21 Feb 2013)

HUSBAND
In 2020 her husband Lei Yang was working as a coach for the German Table Tennis Association [DTTB]. "Of course I have an advantage that I have someone at home to analyse my game after a defeat and also after victories. But then there are disadvantages also. Sometimes he criticises me too much." (myTischtennis.de, 10 Sep 2017; tischtennis.de 19 Mar 2020; bttv.de 10 Jan 2020)
