General
CHINA TO SINGAPORE
Born in Harbin, People's Republic of China, she moved to Singapore in March 2007 after being scouted by coach Liu Guidong of the Singapore Table Tennis Association [STTA]. She became a Singaporean citizen in January 2008. (theonlinecitizen.com, 13 Aug 2012; tabletennisphotos.com, 08 Feb 2009; tabletennista.com, 16 Apr 2016)

NATIONAL TEAM
In October 2016 the Singapore Table Tennis Association [STTA] announced a new high-performance plan for the 2020 Olympic cycle, and said Tianwei had been dropped from the national squad because she did not "fit into the STTA's current plans for rejuvenation".  She responded via social media saying she intended to "continue to compete in international competitions using a different method", but by February 2017 she had been recalled by the STTA to the national team for the Asian championships that year. She continued to feature in the team for the Asian Games in 2018, and both the Asian and world championships in 2019, but was reported to be preparing for competitions on her own.
