Hungary recorded the 12th-fastest time in the heats at the 2019 World Championships in Gwangju, and did not qualify for the final. However, the result was enough to secure one of the automatic qualification slots for the 2020 Olympic Games. Hungary's best world championship result came in 2015, when they qualified for the final and placed eighth. They were disqualified from their heat at the 2017 edition of the championships in Budapest due to an early change on the second leg.
The Hungarian team won bronze on their first appearance at the European championships in 2016. They were disqualified in the heats at the 2018 edition of the tournament, and could only clock the 18-fastest time at the 2020 European Championships, which took place in May 2021.
