General Interest

General
Hungary qualified for the 2020 Olympic Games with one of the four fastest times in the qualification period among teams that did not qualify via the 2019 World Championships. They are competing in their sixth consecutive Games, and have four Olympic medals to their name. They won silver at the first Games to feature the event in 1908 and three consecutive medals [two bronze, one silver] between 1932 and 1948.

The Hungarian team have qualified for the Olympic final only once since 1952, placing eighth in the elite race in 2012. They were disqualified at the 2016 Games in Rio for infringing a rule requiring all relay-only designated swimmers to compete.

Hungary have competed at the last two world championships, and did not make the final in either 2017 or 2019. They were the 15th-fastest team in the heats at the 2019 edition in Gwangju.

They arrive in Tokyo following a 10th-place finish in home water at the European championships in May 2021. They last won a European championship medal in 2012, when they claimed bronze.
