General Interest

General
Germany's best result in the men's 4x200m freestyle relay at the Olympic Games is the bronze medal they won at Atlanta 1996. They finished sixth at the Games in both 2000 and 2004, but failed to reach the final at Beijing in 2008 after recording the 12th-fastest time in the heats. At the 2012 Games in London they finished fourth, 0.29s behind the third-placed Chinese team, and were ranked sixth at Rio 2016. Prior to reunification, the Federal Republic of Germany, the German Democratic Republic and the Unified Team of Germany all won medals in the event at the Olympic Games.

At the world championships, Germany have qualified for the final at five of the last six editions going back to 2009, with a best result of fourth in 2011 during that period. They reached the final at the 2019 World Championships in Gwangju where they finished last by the slimmest of margins, just 0.01s behind seventh-placed Brazil.

German teams have consistently been among the top three at the European championships, where they have won two gold and three silver since the turn of the century.
