General Interest

General
Brazil have been regular entrants in the men's 4x200m freestyle relay at the Olympic Games since making their debut in 1932. However, they have only claimed one medal at the Games, a bronze, which came in 1980 in Moscow. The Brazilian team have competed at almost every edition of the Games since then, with the exception of London 2012, but have only qualified for the final on one of these occasions, at the 1992 Games in Barcelona where they placed seventh. Hopes were high for an appearance in the final at Rio 2016 following gold at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto, but Brazil recorded the 14th-fastest time in the heats and did not reach the final.

The Brazilian team have also found it difficult to progress from the heats at the world championships, with only two appearance in the final since they finished seventh on debut in 1982. However, the second occasion did come at the most recent edition of the tournament in 2019 in Gwangju, where they placed seventh with a time faster than they had ever swum before at an Olympic, Pan American Games, or world championship event.
