His mother was a swimming instructor and she put him in the water at an early age. "My mother was a coach and she made me do my first plunge into the water at age three months old. Since then I have been very passionate for water. When I was one year old I already was swimming." He then combined swimming with judo up until age 13. "I earned a green belt, but it's a contact sport and once I got injured. My swimming coach told me that I needed to choose. As I always have been passionate for swimming I chose the water."
