"When I was five or six years old, my mum says I used to introduce myself like, 'Hi I'm Bailey, I'm going to go to the Olympics for swimming'. And she had to explain to me that it's not just a decision you make, you don't just decide you're going to go to the Olympics. You have to work really hard." (ottawa.ctvnews.ca, 09 Jul 2021)

POSITIVES IN POSTPONEMENT
She believes the postponement of the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo by a year helped her achieve qualification for the Games. "I'm really excited since this last year has been quite a rollercoaster. I think if the trials had happened in 2020 when they were supposed to, I don't think I would have made the team. I wasn't mentally prepared. Physically my body was ready, but I think I was questioning myself too much. This year has given me an opportunity to mature and grow as an athlete, and with the help of my coaches at [Indiana University] and my teammates, I got to the place where I needed to be for the trials. I'm really excited to go to Tokyo. I think I have a lot more in me." (news.iu.edu, 08 Jul 2021)

COLLEGE TRANSFER
She began studying marketing at the University of Denver in the United States of America before transferring to Indiana University Bloomington in her senior year in 2018 to study international and global studies. "A big part of my decision to transfer to IU was to pursue an Olympic dream. Denver, as a programme, built me. I was not fast enough to be recruited by Indiana out of high school, so my first three years, with the help at the University of Denver, I was able to get to a place in my athletic career where I could be at Indiana and have a place on that team. I owe a lot of thank you to my former programme." (swimmingworldmagazine.com, 08 Jul 2021; denverpioneers.com, 01 Jan 2018; LinkedIn profile, 01 Jan 2020)
