She took up swimming and artistic swimming in kindergarten. She began focusing on swimming at age 15. (plzensky.denik.cz, 04 Nov 2020)
:
She practised both swimming and artistic swimming growing up. She had to abandon artistic swimming due to a shoulder problem. "My mother brought me to swimming, she taught children how to swim. Then I did gymnastics for about four years. But I didn't like it and I went back to the pool. Not for swimming, but for artistic swimming. When I was in eighth grade, there was a turning point and I had to choose. At junior level, I already covered both sports a lot, and I had problems with my shoulder. So then I chose swimming because I was always more into speed sports than grace." (plzensky.denik.cz, 04 Nov 2020; swimaholic.cz, 10 Jul 2019)

RETIREMENT THOUGHTS
She lost her passion for the sport after not being selected for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. "I wanted to quit swimming after the 2016 Olympic Games. I had met the A standard, but I did not go. I was the third in the list, and a country could only be represented by two swimmers in one discipline. I was unlucky, sad, and disappointed. The feeling that when you reached your goal, you qualified, but couldn't go, it was something never wished by any top athletes. It was a difficult time for me, I was disappointed for a long time and had to look for a new motivation. It took me almost a year before I started to like swimming again. The Olympic Games is my big dream." (plzensky.denik.cz, 04 Nov 2020; swimaholic.cz, 10 Jul 2019; czechswimming.cz, 29 May 2016)
