MOVE TO FRANKFURT
In 2016 he followed his SG Monchengladbach coach Mark Jayasundara to SG Frankfurt. Jayasundara took over the third team at Monchengladbach a few months after Matzerath had joined the club and they have worked together ever since. "I never wanted to move to a boarding school. [But] it was clear to me that we could achieve even more and so I moved into the athletes' house." In Frankurt he finished his schooling at the Carl von Weinberg Elite School of Sport. FURTHER EDUCATION
He studies electrical engineering at the Rhein-Main University of Applied Sciences in Russelsheim, Germany. In 2021 he took a leave of absence for a semester to focus on swimming. He still takes online classes twice a week. "So that I don't get too bored." (faz.net, 06 Apr 2021; fr.de, 16 Jun 2021)
