CANCER
In 2019 he underwent surgery for kidney cancer, but did not required chemotherapy. "I didn't know if I was going to be able to swim again. There was a lot of things I had to figure out. Thankfully, everything went great. I was able to get back on my feet, back in the pool, within a month or two. So that's why I think back in 2020 probably wasn't the best year for me to perform, which is why it was a blessing for me to have another year for training to kind of get back to where I was before my surgery and then be able to qualify for these Olympics."
