He first preferred rugby and judo, but eventually followed his parents into swimming. He says his parents did not encourage him to pursue the sport. "On the contrary, they left me alone on my project, they even warned me of the sacrifices to be made. It's more of an advantage for me that they have experienced the high level. And above all, I do what I love otherwise it wouldn't work." (ouest-france.fr, 16 Jun 2021; francebleu.fr, 22 Mar 2021)

COLLEGE COMMITMENT
In September 2020 he announced that he would be joining Arizona State University in the United States of America, commencing with the 2021/22 season. "I've been wanting to go to the United States for a long time, and six months since I started my research I already had contacts, coaches who sent me messages to ask me if I was interested. I sent emails, did some Skype calls with coaches. And then I emailed Arizona State and it was Bob Bowman who answered me. It was very cool. It made me feel weird but it was fun. In the United States, you can combine high-level sport and studies, that's cool. American culture and swimming level is another thing, too. I want to discover new things, other people, improve my English and open up a little more." (lequipe.fr, 14 Sep 2020; midnightoncampus.com, 19 Oct 2020)

DIFFICULT PERIOD
He says that the beginning of 2020 was a difficult time for him. "I was trying to find myself a little, especially mentally. I had lost the pleasure of swimming, of confronting my opponents, which is the essence of what I do. I had started on a bad path so I ended up taking a mental trainer. The lockdown [in 2020 due to COVID-19] did me good, I was with my family, I did different things. And I couldn't wait to resume." (lequipe.fr, 16 Jun 2021)
