His father Xavier Marchand competed in swimming at the 1996 and 2000 Olympic Games. His mother Celine Bonnet competed in swimming at the 1992 Olympic Games. He first preferred rugby and judo, but eventually followed his parents into swimming. He says his parents did not encourage him to pursue the sport. "On the contrary, they left me alone on my project, they even warned me of the sacrifices to be made. It's more of an advantage for me that they have experienced the high level.
