In December 2020 he fractured four ribs while surfing in Oahu, HI, United States of America. The injury prevented him from competing in the 2021 Pipe Masters in Oahu. (dukesurf.com, 14 Dec 2020)

In May 2018 he had a motorcycle accident in Indonesia, resulting in a torn posterior cruciate ligament [knee] and kneecap injuries which, according to doctors, had been present prior to the accident. He underwent physical therapy to avoid surgery, which kept him out of competition for two months.
