Growing up she took part in swimming, football, basketball and taekwondo, until she moved temporarily from Lima, Peru, to the surfing town of Mancora, where her uncle ran a restaurant. He gave her a surfboard as a present, and she fell in love with the sport. "[In the sea] I can find peace, energy and passion. Thanks to surfing I am the person who I am now. I never doubted that I would become a professional surfer. I was pretty sure since I was younger. It prepares you to face life." (peru21.pe, 11 Oct 2019; andina.pe, 05 Aug 2019, 22 Sep 2020)
