"I train hard at the start of the season. This is a great time to iron out any gun fit issues and get some lessons on a particular bird if I'm having problems. After this, I train a lot in the month leading up to a big competition, but take the last week off to rest. This may not be ideal for many shooters but I find it works well for me not to do an excessive amount of shooting right before an event. I know lots of top-level guys who shoot massive numbers of cartridges during their training but this is definitely the only way to achieve results." (clay-shooting.com, 26 Feb 2021)

He competed at the 2000, 2004, 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games before missing the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro. He says missing the 2016 Games is his one regret about his Olympic career. "That is the only thing, but this [qualifying for the 2020 Games] kind of came out of the blue. Sometimes, you don't really know what scores you are going to get. Given what has gone on with Covid and that, I haven't been doing as much training as maybe I would have liked but it's nice to see that my form is pretty good at the minute [speaking in July 2021]."
