PARTNER SWITCHES
Having won silver together with Stuart Bithell in the men's 470 at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, the pair decided to find new partners ahead of the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro. Patience first paired up with Joe Glanfield, before Glanfield announced his retirement in February 2014. Two months later Patience began working with Elliot Willis, but Willis was later forced to withdraw from selection after he was diagnosed with bowel cancer. Patience then started sailing with Chris Grube at the end of 2015, and the pair went on to finish fifth at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Patience and Grube had previously competed together in the 470 class before parting ways in 2009. "I had already had a bit of a messy cycle with [original crew] Joe Glanfield retiring, and then Elliot [having to withdraw]. Twiggy [Grube] is a great guy and we've been sailing either with or against each other for many years so [the transition] was relatively seamless."
