PARTNERSHIP
He and his 470 crewmate Luke Patience began sailing together at the end of 2015, just months before the start of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, as Patience's previous partner Elliot Willis withdrew from selection after he was diagnosed with bowel cancer. Grube and Patience had previously competed together in the 470 class before parting ways in 2009. The pair went on to place fifth at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro. "Naturally the circumstances in which we started off were not the best, and it was a really tricky situation when I got that first call from Luke. But I had to see it as an opportunity to go to the Olympics, and I also felt that I had something of a responsibility to go to the Olympics and to do the best I can for everybody, and for my country."
