Her mother was an elite athlete and wanted her to be involved in sport. "She was in the Olympic riding squad, which meant I did a fair bit of riding at a young age. However, she thought it was cheaper to buy me a boat rather than a pony." (sailingnetworks.com, 2007)

General Interest

General
CREWMATE
In January 2017 she split with former crewmate Sophie Ainsworth, with whom she finished eighth in the 49er FX class at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. She then partnered with Saskia Tidey. (sailingscuttlebutt.com, 14 Apr 2020, 02 Oct 2019; GBR FX Girls Facebook page, 20 Jan 2017; bournemouthecho.co.uk, 20 Jan 2017)

SWITCHING CLASSES
After missing out on qualification for the Olympic Games in 2008 and 2012, she decided to switch from the Laser class to the 49er FX. Trying the skiff for the first time, she was unsure whether she had made the right choice. "I was in tears when we left the beach. I was terrified. But, suddenly, the fear turned to enjoyment and I have loved it ever since. I was looking for a new challenge and I wasn't sure if I wanted to continue or not. So I jumped into the skiff and I literally just loved it." (thedailysail.com, 14 Feb 2014; scotsman.com, 23 Sep 2013)

STUDY BREAK
She graduated with a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland in 2016. She had first begun the degree in 2003 after leaving school but the university allowed her to defer the programme so she should could fit her studies around sailing. (LinkedIn profile, 01 Jun 2016)
