She took up the sport with her father at age six, and started sailing in the Optimist class at Kingston Yacht Club in Ontario, Canada, at age eight. "I grew up in the amazing sailing community of Kingston which provided me with the rich experience of world-class sailing right in my own backyard." She was encouraged to take up sailing by her father, who competed in the sport internationally. "I was kind of born into sailing. Our sport is at the mercy of mother nature. The wind can change in strength, location and direction, and this challenge is what makes sailing so exciting." CHANGING CLASS
In 2016 she switched from the 470 to the 49erFX class, and she says the experience of sailing in both classes has enhanced her abilities. "I'm fortunate that a lot of what I learned in 470 is transferable. It's a very different type of boat, but it's sailing. The physics are still the same, the fundamentals are still the same, so transferring that over has been very useful. The speed of the [49erFX] boat is amazing. It is a very physical boat, and the harder you work the faster you will go. I always tell people that there is never a bad day when racing 49ers. You are always going super fast and having such a great time." (thewhig.com, 20 Jun 2017; visitkingston.ca, 01 Jul 2019)

PARTNERSHIP
She and her crewmate Mariah Millen began sailing together in 2017. Millen switched class from sailing in the 29er class at youth level to partner with her in the 49erFX class. "I can't speak highly enough of Mariah. She has made the transition from the 29er to 49er so seamlessly. She works so hard. She is so fit and athletic. Because it is a two-person boat, we work very hard to have a strong dynamic, strong communication skills and lots of set routines. Both our fathers competed in the Olympics. They both crewed for skipper Frank McLaughlin." (thewhig.com, 20 Jun 2017, 01 Aug 2019; visitkingston.ca, 01 Jul 2019; Facebook team page, 23 Nov 2020)
