She was inspired by her family's love for the ocean. Her brother started the sport and she followed. "I love being out in the water, I love the competitive aspect. I love sailing for its ability to be a lifelong sport and the variety of sailing you can do. You can head out on the water for a cruise with friends, stay overnight on a boat, or you can go the competitive route like I have and pursue your Olympic dream. I loved the whole lifestyle of sailing. And once I got into competition, I'm a very competitive person, so the actual sport and competition of sailing I really enjoyed." "My advice for female athletes is to have no fear. Don't be afraid to speak up, ask a question and show everyone what you can do. I myself have been quiet in the past but it won't help yourself or your community to move forward." (sail-world.com, 22 Feb 2020)

General Interest

General
HIATUS
In 2010 she decided to coach youth athletes at Ashbridge's Bay Yacht Club in Toronto, ON, Canada, for two summers after losing her passion for competition. She was inspired to start racing again by watching other Canadian athletes, and returned to competitive sailing in the Laser Radial class in 2014. She subsequently qualified for the Canada national sailing team as a senior athlete in 2015. "My sailing career hasn't exactly been smooth. After being successful as a youth athlete and going to the Youth Olympic Games [in 2010 in Singapore], I came second at the Canadian Youth Championships in 2010 and decided I was going to step away from racing. I stopped for a couple of years and filled my summers coaching, travelling, and going to volleyball camps. I came back in 2014 with a new-found drive and an Olympic dream." NATIONAL SWITCH
She competed for Barbados until 2008, and then switched to represent Canada. (sailswag.com, 05 Aug 2015)
