In 2011, at age 14, he began sailing in the 420 class with fellow Irish sailor Robert Dickson. The pair moved to the 49er class in about 2016 and were aiming to qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris before the rescheduling of the 2020 Games in Tokyo to 2021 made them rethink their goals. The pair secured a quota spot for Ireland ahead of Tokyo 2020 at the 2021 Lanzarote International Regatta in Spain. "For sure, we are getting better every day. The qualification series got moved a whole year because of COVID-19 so we had an extra year to prepare and train for this, which was probably a blessing in disguise.
