"I started my sailing career in an Optimist dinghy. Fortunately, I was too tall and heavy for such a small boat and at age 14 I was encouraged to switch to windsurfing. It was the perfect decision. I have three older brothers who were sailing, and I had no choice either. In the 1990s windsurfing was developing a lot and I wanted to try too. POSTPONED RETIREMENT
He intended to retire from the sport in 2020, but he decided to prolong his career for another year following the postponement of the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. "The Games are postponed and my retirement is postponed. I will end my career in 2021. My family and I went through those four years [after the 2016 Olympic Games], so a few more months will not make a big difference.
