He was encouraged to begin sailing by his uncle, who was also doing the sport. "As a child, I was involved in many sports, but did not stay for long anywhere. Oddly enough, the longest hobby was chess. I came to sailing in winter, so I practised in the pool and gym for several months. Only in May I went out on the water. I will probably never forget that first time. It was difficult, terribly scary. When a strong wind blows, and you are still small, you cannot cope, you are carried away from the base.
