He first tried sailing at a sports camp. "I did everything - wave surfing, windsurfing, kayak - and I just fell in love. I don't really remember why I chose windsurfing, but I just remember it was like a one-way decision, I knew it was going to be windsurfing. I was small and skinny, and everyone said to me, 'Leave windsurfing, sailing in boats is less physical and easier'. But I was a stubborn kid. Windsurfing usually only starts at age 10, but when they saw that I was not giving up, they gave me a special permit to start at a younger age." COMPETING AGAINST HIS IDOL
He remembers being inspired by Shahar Tzuberi, who won bronze in the RS:X class at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. Cohen and Tzuberi have since started competing against each other, and both contested the spot for national selection ahead of the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. Tzuberi initially earned the place on the team, but the postponement of the Games until 2021 gave Cohen another chance at qualification, which he secured at the 2021 Class World Championships in Cadiz, Spain. "First they took my dream, and suddenly gave it back to me. I told myself that there was no way I was letting the opportunity slip away again. Recently all the articles published about me have called me the youngest. Everywhere I am 'young, young, young', but I do not see it that way. I come to compete at eye level with everyone.
