General Interest

General
CONNECTION WITH THE SEA
He says he loves being outdoors and competing in nature. "You have to have a strong connection, a fluid one. Besides being an athlete, you have to be intelligent and understand how the waves work, the current, the wind, the geographical space. The more you train and compete, the more you learn about this connection with nature, which is a very enriching experience." (emol.com, 08 Dec 2019)

SACRIFICES AND FAMILY
He says his training has taken him away from his education, his family and friends. "Social life is another thing you have to sacrifice. To give you an idea, in November I missed my brother's birthday, my mother and my father's in September. It's a sacrifice, but it's really worth it. My family, especially my father, made me train at the weekends. When I felt unmotivated he was there to push me. Without his support, I would have quit the sport. My father was essential with his support. When I crossed the finish line and I got that Olympic quota, nothing else compares to that feeling of winning." (emol.com, 08 Dec 2019; tell.cl, 29 Dec 2018)

LOVE OF SAILING
He explains why sailing is unique and what makes it different from other sports. "Sailing isn't being lucky. The best is always going to be at the front, but he doesn't always win. You depend on factors you can't control - the wind, the current, someone running into you at the start. Here Usain Bolt isn't always going to win. That's the magic of sailing and at the end, the one who makes the fewest mistakes and sails the smoothest is the one who wins." (tell.cl, 29 Dec 2018)
