INTERNATIONAL RETIREMENT AND RETURN
He announced his retirement from international competition after winning a bronze medal at the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, Republic of Korea. He began working as an office worker at Korea Electric Power Corporation [KEPCO] in the Republic of Korea during his time away from the sport. In July 2019 he announced his return to international competition with a view to competing at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo and promoting the sport in the Republic of Korea. "[National] head coach Seo Chunoh persuaded me to return by emphasising that the team needs a veteran player. I felt sorry and thankful for my wife as we also had to postpone starting a family following the postponement of the 2020 Olympic Games. The 2020 Olympics is a once-in-a-lifetime chance for me."
