After finishing university she began working for a law firm in Boston, but was not yet ready to give up on her sporting ambitions. A friend from high school recommended she try rugby. "It was a great first job, a great opportunity. But I realised pretty quickly that I wasn't going to do very well sitting at a desk all day. After a year of working, I decided to commit to playing rugby full-time and accepted a contract as an athlete with USA Rugby in order to pursue a lifelong dream of being an Olympian. Once I started playing, I was instantly hooked." (usa.rugby, 01 Jan 2020; teamusa.org, 12 Jun 2019; LinkedIn profile, 01 Jan 2019; ephsports.williams.edu, 2019)

"I honestly think that rugby is the ultimate team sport because you have to rely on teammates to have your back at every moment and be willing to put your body on the line for each other. Whether it is being there to support you when you get tackled or being there to make a tackle that you miss, you need to trust that your teammates will be there for you and that you will be there for them." She was named on the 2020 Sevens Series Women's Dream Team by World Rugby. (world.rugby, 16 Sep 2020)

General Interest

General
FROM FOOTBALL TO RUGBY
She believes her background in football has prepared her well for rugby. "I started playing soccer, I think, as soon as I could walk. I think that soccer equipped me incredibly well for rugby. The soccer background has been incredibly useful in my spatial awareness and my ability to defensively track players much like one would in soccer. I also think that my soccer experience has been an incredibly useful background in my ability to change directions quickly and evade defenders one on one. And then I think, hand-eye coordination from basketball and lacrosse were huge. And, having learned how to tackle when I was eight years old playing Pop Warner [American] football and learned how to take a hit, I wasn't afraid of the contact element. Every single sport I played really allowed me to be good at rugby, I think." (ephsports.williams.edu, 24 Jan 2019; wbur.org, 28 Feb 2020)

OLYMPIC DREAM
She admits that giving up her career at a law firm in Boston, MA, United States of America to pursue rugby was a scary decision. "It was one of the most terrifying decisions that I've ever made. You know, I had an apartment in Boston. I had a full-time job in Boston. I was doing pretty well for myself. And I got offered this opportunity. And so I just took a chance on the Olympic dream." (wbur.org, 28 Feb 2020)
