She played in boys' rugby teams during her childhood. "I joined the junior setup of Mwamba RFC [Nairobi, Kenya] while I was still a young girl, playing in the mixed setup with boys. However, girls have to stop playing with boys at a certain age. I played up until that point, but I was too young to join the women's team straightaway.
