General Interest

General
BREAK AND RETURN
After missing out on the double sculls A final at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, she was diagnosed with depression and took a two-year break from the sport, before returning to training in 2018 and joining the women's four crew. "It started to show when I wasn't enjoying going out for a surf. It was then that my family said, 'Why don't you go to the doctor and have a check-up?' And it was then that I was diagnosed. It took me about a year or so to slowly work my way out of this depression." While away from rowing, she built a small house with her partner Chris Morrison, before her desire to return to sport resurfaced. "The percentage of the drive to get back into it just started to increase and increase as time went on." (newsroom.co.nz, 21 Oct 2018)

CHANGING PLACES
She has rowed internationally in a number of different boats. Her career began in junior women's eights where she won a silver medal at the 2009 World Junior Championships in Brive-la-Gaillarde, France. In early 2011 national selectors decided to move her from a sweep oar boat to the quadruple sculls. She moved back to the eights for the 2013 World Championships in Chungju, Republic of Korea, and later teamed up with Zoe Stevenson in the double sculls in early 2015. After taking a two-year break, she was selected as part of the women's four crew in 2019. (rowingnz.kiwi, 01 Jan 2019; stuff.co.nz, 7 Mar 2015; worldrowing.com, 30 Nov 2011)

OTHER ACTIVITIES
Outside of rowing, she and her partner Chris Morrison run Raglan Tiny Homes in New Zealand, selling small, environmentally friendly houses. She has also co-authored the book 'How We Got Happy - Stories of Health, Hope and Happiness from 20 Young Kiwis Who Beat Depression', and is an artist. "Art for me is also a way to clear my mind, free my spirit and, when I am rowing full on, art is exactly what I need to keep me alive."
