Originally from Belfast in Northern Ireland, she moved to London, England, to study, where she also worked in a sports shop and as a nanny. In 2017 she decided to move to Henley-on-Thames to pursue rowing full-time. She found the switch difficult initially, but soon settled into life as a professional athlete. "It's really different and I struggled going from fitting in all this stuff in London to moving [to Henley].
