She tried distance running and basketball before she started rowing. "I was raised on a farm where work ethic was the foundation of my childhood. I ran competitively in high school, racing in cross-country and track. I then went on the University of British Columbia to run and enrol at the Sauder School of Business. In my first year I was recruited as a novice for the rowing team and I found myself falling in love with the sport. The comradery, self discovery, and direction that comes with rowing has encouraged me to continue this wonderful rowing dream."
