"I was in grade 10 at Westdale Secondary School when [Canadian rower] Doug [Hamilton] came down to Leander Boat Club to show off the Olympic medal to everyone. I got to hold it and feel the weight and shortly after that I went to [Leander and Westdale Secondary School coach] Andrea Miller and said, 'This is what I want to do,' and that's when I started to take it seriously." He has two or three training sessions a day. "Usually in the morning it's 20 to 25 kilometres in the water, then we have weights or erg [ergometer] or a second row later in the day. So, it's a lot.
