"My twin brother, Alan, did a rowing camp when we were 12 years old and he loved it, took to it straight away. He used to come home from the summer camp and be like, 'It was amazing, it was so different'. At the time I didn't really care. I then started secondary school and the friends that I made were all rowing and they were like, 'Oh you are Alan Murtagh's sister, you should start rowing', so I did. Alan convinced me eventually to start rowing and that was 2009 and I have been going ever since." (midwestradio.ie, 28 Mar 2021)

STUDYING ABROAD
She studied at Fordham University in New York City, NY, United States of America, on a rowing scholarship from 2012 to 2016, and was part of the women's club 4 that won the university's first ever Head of Charles race. She was recruited by the university's coach at the time, Ted Bonanno. "Ted was very adamant about bringing me to Fordham. The team culture of Fordham Rowing is one I have greatly appreciated and will always admire. These girls over the last three years took me in, a literal foreigner to both Fordham and America, and showed me what being a Ram is all about. I've never trained as much in my life up until that point, so I definitely created my work ethic that I still have today. [In terms of] life experience, it was amazing."
