In early 2021 he suffered a thigh muscle injury during a training camp in Portugal. Shortly after recovering, he was left with a fractured cheekbone and forehead following a cycling accident. He was not selected for the 2021 European Championships in Varese, Italy, having been unable to train due to his injuries.
