He originally wanted to become a mechanic before switching to rowing. "I was at an automotive school, and coaches Daniel Moise and Cornel Nedelcu from CSS Calarasi came and saw that I was tall. They liked me and they called me. That's where my life, my mind, everything changed. Now I hate repairing my car. I was crazy to want to be a mechanic.
