The United States of America were awarded a place in the Tokyo Games group all-around event thanks to their 10th-place finish at the 2019 World Championships. They were not one of the automatic qualifiers from that event, but were reallocated the host nation place after Japan qualified outright.

The team chose the right time to perform at the world championships as that 10th place in Baku, Azerbaijan, is their best-ever finish in the event at the world championships.

Tokyo is the third Olympic appearance for the US team, following on from their debut - and best result of ninth - in 1996 in Atlanta. At the most recent Games in 2016 they finished 14th.
