"My uncle is a judo and sambo [wrestling] coach, so my choice was a foregone conclusion. In sambo, results came immediately, whereas in judo at first it did not work out very well. When I found my way and became the strongest in Russia in both sports, I had to choose. I left sambo and completely focused on judo. Many people said that it would be easier for me in sambo and that I would quickly become an Honoured Master of Sport. But, for me, a medal at the Olympic Games is more important."
