She wanted to try the sport after reading about Canadian judoka Nicolas Gill. "He [Gill] was describing his sport and I wanted to try it. WEIGHT CLASS CHANGE AND COOKBOOK
She moved up from the -57kg class to the -63kg category in 2016, after her first round defeat at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. "I had completely stopped after the Games because I was too fixated on food at that time. My relationship with food was not healthy. I wanted to distance myself and stop thinking about food." She began writing a cookbook, which she revisited in 2020 and hopes to release before the rescheduled Games in 2021. "I started to think about this before the 2016 Olympic Games when I was in the -57kg and doing a lot of diets. I thought it would be fun to make a cookbook for weight class sports athletes. Because it's a bit unknown, especially when you're young. You don't quite know how it works, how to weight, what to eat. And many young people eat only tuna cans or protein bars. You can eat so much better than that, and have fun eating even if you have to cut weight. Then I reread what I wrote and I thought to myself 'No, I like it less or I think less like that now'. So I redid my book all over because my way of thinking about food has changed a bit. I do less diets because I am in the -63kg." (ici.radio-canada.ca, 23 May 2020)
