REPRESENTING IRELAND
Born to an Irish mother in England, she initially competed for Great Britain before switching sporting allegiances to Ireland in 2017. Sitting behind Sally Conway in the -70kg category, she was unhappy with the pressure of having to commit to full-time training at GB Judo's training base in Walsall, England. She was faced with the reality of being pushed down to fifth in the pecking order if she did not make the move. "It was a case of them believing in their programme, and sticking by it. I was working as a school teacher, injured at the time and wasn't sure if I was coming back. It was make or break - move or be completely pushed down the sidelines. Then mum and dad spoke to me about switching to Ireland. It was a difficult decision, but the best we've ever made. We've never felt more supported."
