Los Leones

General
Argentina became the first South American team to win an Olympic gold medal in hockey at Rio 2016. Qualifying third from their group with two wins, two draws and a loss, they went on to eliminate Spain and Germany before overcoming Belgium in the final. Their victory was even more impressive given they had not won a medal in any of their previous 10 Olympic appearances since making their debut in 1948.

Los Leones won their 10th gold medal at the Pan American Games in 2019. They have featured in every final at the Games, only finishing as runner-up on four occasions. The win in 2019 booked them their place at the Tokyo Games.

The Argentinian team have a best finish of third across six appearances in the Champions Trophy, which they recorded in 2008. They placed fourth at the most recent edition of the tournament in 2018, but they were beaten 2-0 by the Netherlands in the third-place match.

Argentina's best result at the World Cup is a third-place finish in 2014. They were ranked seventh at the 2018 World Cup in Bhubaneswar, India.
