COMMITMENT
After finishing high school he went straight into a job as a mine fitter at a coal mine in Lithgow, NSW, Australia, where his father Richard also worked. He stayed in Lithgow until January 2018, when he moved to Perth, Western Australia, after being called up to the senior Australia squad ahead of the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, QLD, Australia. "I always wanted to play hockey, but when I finished Year 12 I didn't get the marks to do engineering, so I decided to stay home and make some money. Not many players come from a trade background, and it was hard to do both. I was starting work at 6am and afterwards driving straight to Sydney [two hours away] for training [at Ryde Hockey Club], and I wouldn't get home until 10pm, and then I'd have to be up again at 5am for work.''
