She took a two-year break from international hockey after the 2012 Olympic Games in London to study at Boston University in the United States of America. She says the time away made her appreciate playing for New Zealand more. "I wouldn't give up that Boston experience for anything. Those two years out made me realise how much I loved hockey and how much I missed it [international competition], so I really wanted to get back in."
