Her father Yuji Nagai was the head coach of the Japanese women's hockey team at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, and has also coached at Japanese club Sony HC Bravia Ladies. Her mother Rieko is a former hockey player who represented Japan at the 1981 World Cup in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Her younger sister Hazuki and younger brother Yuma have competed in the sport at international level, and Hazuki was part of the Japanese national team alongside Yuri at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
