His father Yuji Nagai was the head coach of the Japanese women's team at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, and has coached the Hockey Japan League club Sony HC Bravia Ladies. His mother Rieko is a former hockey player who represented Japan at the 1981 World Cup in Buenos Aires, Argentina. His older sisters Yuri and Hazuki have competed in the sport at international level and were part of the Japanese team at the 2016 Olympic Games.
