He studies and learns opponents' movement patterns through video footage and then draws diagrams of the patterns to help remember them. "It may be a little boring to sit and study videos, but it is super important. When a shooter starts to get tired, they typically return to their favorite shots, and that's what I'm trying to study." General Interest

General
HEARING IMPAIRMENT
At an early age he was affected by meningitis, which resulted in hearing loss in his left ear. "I've never known anything other than being semi-deaf, so I've learned to live with it. It has strengthened my other senses and I use my eyesight a lot instead. For example, I spend more time reading. If there is a lot of background noise, I can't look people in the eye at all because I have to look directly at the mouth to [understand]." He says his impairment has also brought him unfortunate situations in which people get the wrong impression of him simply because he did not respond to something that was said to him. This has led him to explain his condition when he meets new people. "It's important to me that people know, 'I don't hear everything you say, but it's not because I don't want to hear'." (hopskud.dk, 2009; livsstil.tv2.dk, 15 Apr 2019)

PLAYING WITH HIS BROTHER
His younger brother Magnus is also a handball player and in 2018 he joined German side THW Kiel, playing alongside Niklas. The brothers have also played alongside each other at international level for Denmark. "It has always been a wish and a big dream. It's great to see him a little more often. He has done his job incredibly well and seized the opportunity from day one. We can play with each other off the field, but when we start the game, he is a player just like all the others, and so the most important thing is that we [win]. Then it really doesn't matter if he is my family or not." (dr.dk, 23 Oct 2018; bt.dk, 09 Jan 2019)

OTHER ACTIVITIES
He created the app Citybrands, which aims to help people find their favourite store or brand in a city they do not know very well. He is involved in the project with fellow handball player Rasmus Nielsen. He also heads a goalkeeping training camp with Danish national teammate Jannick Green. (Facebook page, 03 Aug 2019)
