He played football for many years before switching to handball. "I only played handball with a few friends on the side. I was even a national player in football [Faroe Islands' U17 team]. When I was 15 I realised that I was better at handball and immediately played in the top league [in the Faroe Islands]. Born and raised in the Faroe Islands, he moved to Denmark at age 16 to advance his handball career. He previously represented the Faroe Islands, but in 2013 he decided to switch his sporting allegiance to Denmark.
