In 2020 he was appointed head coach of Odense Handbold in Denmark.

Previous role:

He served as head coach of the Bahrain men's national team between 2009 and 2011 and then the Saudi Arabia men's national team between 2011 and 2012. In between the two national team roles, he had a brief stint with KIF Vejen women's team in Denmark in 2011. He held the position of assistant coach of the Danish women's national team between 2012 and 2015. He then had a four month spell with Randers HK women's team in Denmark in 2015, before coaching women's side Odense Handbold for two years between 2015 and 2017.

He initially planned to end his coaching role with the Japanese women's national team after the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo in order to take up the head coach position at Odense Handbold in Denmark ahead of the 2020/21 Dame Handbold Ligaen season. However, after the one-year postponement of the Games due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he came to an agreement with both parties to fulfil both roles during the 2020/21 season. "I am extremely grateful for the way in which Odense Handbold has professionally handled this request from JHA [Japan Handball Association].
