His father Seisaku played handball at club level in Japan, while his mother Isako played handball at university level in Japan. His father also served as a coach of the Japanese women's handball team at the 2004 Asian Championships in Hiroshima, Japan, and has served as director of the Okinawa Handball Association in Japan. His older brother Taiki has represented Japan in handball at junior level, and has played professional handball in the German Handball-Bundesliga and the Japan Handball League.
