UPCOMING TRANSFER
In June 2021 it was announced she would join Romanian side Gloria Bistrita for the 2021/22 season. (marca.com, 03 Jun 2021)

RETURN FOR TOKYO
She only returned to the national team a few weeks before the start of the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament [ACL] in her left knee in November 2020. "The day I was injured the world fell on me, but the next day the doctor told me I could get there [2020 Olympic Games], so my goal was to have a quick operation and start my rehabilitation as soon as possible. Luckily, I could be at home and everything went well. Doing the rehabilitation with the family by my side has given me the strength to continue, and now I know I will be able to compete at the Olympic Games." (marca.com, 12 Jul 2021; estadiodeportivo.com, 21 Jun 2021)

MOTHERHOOD
She gave birth to her son Jesus in 2019. "Being an athlete and a mother is not easy. But if we do not fight to change this ourselves, no one is going to do it. It can be combined [sport and motherhood], but it is true that it is very complicated because in the end you are not with your son as much as you would like to. In my case, I am very lucky because my husband is involved in being a father. I wanted to show that it is possible to be a mother and play at a high level. You have to be very well organised and it is a lot of sacrifice, but everything is possible." (shandybarbosa.com, 12 Jul 2021; estadiodeportivo.com, 21 Jun 2021; elperiodico.com, 29 Nov 2019)

FROM PORTUGAL TO SPAIN
Born in Lisbon, Portugal, she initially represented her country of birth before switching her sporting allegiance to Spain in 2012. She was granted Spanish citizenship in June 2012. "The main reason I asked for the Spanish citizenship was a sporting one. With Portugal I did not have the chance to play at the world and European championships, or the Olympic Games. I have that chance with Spain and I want to take advantage of it." (rtp.pt, 23 Dec 2014; publico.pt, 19 Dec 2014; botebalonmano.com, 22 Dec 2013; masdeporte.as.com, 31 Oct 2012; rfebm.net, 30 Oct 2012)

NUMBER 86
