SPORTING FAMILY
His mother Anna Elekne Rothermel represented Hungary in handball at the world championships in 1965 and 1971, winning gold in 1965 and bronze in 1971. His father Gyula Elek has coached the Ferencvarosi TC women's handball team in Hungary. He is also related to Adam Rothermel, who was part of the Hungarian football team that won silver at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich. His wife Zita Szucsanszki has represented Hungary in handball at five editions of the world championships and won a bronze medal at the 2012 European Championship in Serbia. JOURNEY TO HEAD COACH
He was initially co-coach of the Hungary women's national team alongside Gabor Danyi when he first took up the role in 2019. He took over as the sole head coach after the 2020 European Championship in Sweden, Austria and Norway, while Danyi became the team's assistant coach. (ihf.info, 05 Nov 2020)
